ABOUT DUCTING
Getting comfortable with ducting
The "air network" in your home...
What is Ductwork? - A network of metal, fiberboard or flexible material flowing throughout a space which delivers air from an HVAC unit to the respective zones of a home or office.
The ducts that are part of central heating and cooling systems. They offer one of the best opportuninities to increase your energy efficiency, increase your comfort and manage your energy bills. Studies indicate that 10-30% of the heated or cooled air is lost (along with the money spent to heat or cool that air) through leaky or inefficient ducts.
Properly sized, installed and sealed ductwork will make your heating and cooling systems significantly more efficient. Testing the ducts will locate leaks or damage and focus repair work in the rights areas. Replacing the ducts offers the opportunity to size the rooms and balance the air for more comfort. Plus you have the peace of mind that your not heating or cooling space unnecessarily.
Today's standards for Ductwork have changed. You may wonder why it is important to have insulated flex ducts in your home. Or, does this type of duct make a difference vs. standard ducting? The ducts we install are UL181 listed, have an R-Value of 6. We install R6 insulated Wireflex that allows for greater flexibility of installation and the insulation factor holds the conditioned air reducing heat/cool transfer loss. The air you cool or heat is going to get to where you want it to and stay at a relative temperature as it moves through the ducts.

Tips for your system
General
just like changing your oil in your car or the air filter and tire pressure there are just a few basic things you should do to keep your system working great
dirty filters account for a loss of effiecncy up to _% making your system restricted can cause undue stress - disposible filters should be changed every couple of months if you are operating your system daily. If you live in a windy area or construction is nearby, filters will clog much faster.
Air Conditioners
It is important to keep your outside unit free of any debris around it. Also, don't
stack anything on top of it. It is important that air is allowed to flow so the fan won't be restricted.
Got outside dogs? They love the wires and the insulation so protecting the area where they might chew will save you BIG money in unneeded repairs.
Furnaces
Since furnaces use fire to heat, safety is critical and keep the area around your furnace clear is key. NEVER store flammable liquids, especially things like gasoline anywhere in the vicinity of a furnace. Same goes for gas water heaters. Keep other flammable items away from these units too just to be safe.
Have your systems inspected at least once a year. Carbon Monoxide poisoning is a serious threat to your life. Blocked exhasut ducting can be deadly. Also, many furnaces contain the cooling coils for their air conditioner. These coils sweat (water condenses on them) and over time the water can leak into parts of your furnace. That can cause rust and eventually damage the furnace.
Safety Notes
Furnace Safety;
1) NEVER open your furnace when it is running.
2) ALWAYS call us for an over-the-phone consultation about your heating system.
IF YOU'RE IN DOUBT, ASK US ABOUT A 15 POINT MAINTENANCE INSPECTION
